Hummid ("we," "us," "our," or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our weather application (the "App").

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our App. By accessing and using Hummid, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all the provisions of this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Data

What we collect: Your device's approximate and precise location (latitude and longitude) to deliver relevant weather forecasts tailored to your specific area.

How we use it: We use location data to fetch real-time weather information from our weather data providers (Open-Meteo). Location is determined via:

• Device GPS (precise location with ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission)
• Network-based location (approximate location with ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permission)

Retention: Location data is used only in real-time for weather requests and is not stored on our servers or persisted beyond the immediate weather fetch.

2.2 Saved Locations

What we collect: If you save favorite locations, we store location name, country, latitude, and longitude locally on your device using Android DataStore.

Data storage: This data is stored entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or third parties.

2.3 Device Information

What we collect: Device type, OS version, app version, and advertising ID (if applicable) are collected by third-party services for analytics and personalization.

2.4 Usage Data

What we collect: Information about your interactions with the App (features used, search history, alert preferences) collected via analytics SDKs to improve functionality.

2.5 Notification Preferences & Alert Data

What we collect: Your alert threshold preferences (rain probability, wind speed, UV index, temperature, AQI limits) are stored locally on your device.

Data storage: Alert preferences are stored only on your device and used locally by WorkManager background tasks to determine when to send notifications.

  • Provides: Air quality index (AQI), PM2.5, PM10, pollen counts (alder, birch, grass, ragweed, olive, mugwort)

• Open-Meteo Archive API (archive-api.open-meteo.com)
  • Provides: Historical weather data for 30-day/90-day trends
  • Data sent: Your latitude, longitude, and date range

• wttr.in API (wttr.in)
  • Provides: Moon phase data (phase name, illumination percentage)
  • Data sent: Your location name
  • Privacy: Data is public; wttr.in does not store personal data
• Nominatim Geocoding (nominatim.openstreetmap.org)
  • Provides: City/location name lookup and reverse geocoding
  • Data sent: City names or latitude/longitude for location lookup

3.2 Advertising & Analytics

• Google AdMob
  • Serves advertisements and collects advertising ID for targeting

4. Permissions Required

4.1 Location Permissions

• ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION: Precise location (GPS) for accurate weather forecasts
• ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Approximate location (network-based) as fallback for weather data

4.2 Network Permission

• INTERNET: Required to retrieve real-time weather information from our APIs and deliver advertisements

4.3 Notification Permission

• POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): Required to send weather alert notifications (rain, wind, UV, temperature, AQI alerts)

4.4 Background Task Permission

• RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows the app to reschedule background weather alert checks when the device boots

5. How We Use Your Information

6. Background Tasks & Notifications

Hummid uses WorkManager to run background tasks for weather alert checks. This allows the app to:

• Periodically fetch weather data (approximately every 3 hours)
• Compare current conditions against your configured thresholds
• Send notifications when thresholds are exceeded (e.g., rain > 70% chance, wind > 60 km/h)
• Reschedule checks on device boot via RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED

All threshold logic runs locally on your device. No alert preferences or weather data are sent to external servers for processing.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information:

• All network requests use HTTPS encryption
• Local data (saved locations, alert preferences) is stored securely on your device
• Location data is used only for real-time API requests and not persisted
• Widget data cached in SharedPreferences contains only non-sensitive weather info
• No personal data is stored on our servers

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Saved Locations & Alert Preferences: Stored locally on your device until you delete them via the app.

Location Data: Used only during real-time API requests. Not retained after the request completes.

Widget Cache: Weather data cached in SharedPreferences is automatically refreshed when the widget updates (every 30 minutes).

Analytics Data: Governed by Google Analytics and AdMob retention policies (typically 14-26 months).

9. Third-Party Links

This Privacy Policy applies only to Hummid. The App may link to external websites (privacy policy pages, API providers) which have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for the content or practices of these third-party sites.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access personal data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt-out of personalized advertising
• Withdraw consent for location or notification services

11. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

European Users (GDPR): The App respects GDPR principles. Location and notification permissions are opt-in. You can withdraw consent anytime via device settings.

12. Children's Privacy

Hummid is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected personal info from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected with a new "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
